Tile Cleaning and Grout Restoration
Client had some mixed boxes of leftover tile, ( neither of which were enough to do the whole floor ) and a small bathroom floor that was in need of some help. So we pieced this together and saved her some money on new tile. Always happy to try and help a client anyway I can. Not too bad for a hodpodge of leftover tiles. Thanks again for the business Allison, it was a pleasure!
What a difference that grout makes 🤩 Spectralock 1 for the win.
Pack a Pan Friday was yesterday. We'll let that cure over the weekend and waterproof it on Monday. Nothing better than a custom packed mud pan with a flofx drain! @flofx.usa
Got a banger in the works. We'll be fitting this master out with some marble herringbone. Stay tuned 🤙
This master bathroom at the Stratton project got quite the makeover. Few before and afters. Still some finishing touches to be done, but it looks great!
First of 4 bathroom remodels up at Stratton Mt, VT. Complete #schlutersystemsna shower system. Monolithic 12x24 on floors and walls. Tiled entire vanity wall and connected to shower with wanescotting. Trimmed out with matte white jollys. Linear drain and low profile curb. Just waiting on some solid stone to finish the curb and bathroom threshold, and this ones a wrap. On to the Master
Finally started the first phase of this 4 bathroom project. Wrapping this first one up in the orange stuff. Wall to curb linear drain, rain shower head, body sprayer, and a sleek low profile curb. #schlutersystems #strattonmountain
Dumpster is full, and the rooms are empty. Couple small things and we're ready for rough in 🤙
Made my way out to Stratton Mt. VT yesterday to start the first phase of a 4 bathroom remodel. What a great view we have!
It's finally official, trailering in style! Shout out to "Mac The Knife" of Queensbury for getting me on the schedule and doing a fantastic job of lettering the trailer. You guys rock!
Wrapped up this 2x8 brick bond with a framed herringbone feature for @hinman_construction today. Always a good time working for them. Until the next one, on to another one.
Simple yet challenging backsplash from a few weeks ago. The commercial size stove only had a few inches of slack in the gas line to pull out from the wall. Covered it up real good, climbed on top and single set the tiles behind the back of the exhaust. There are never problems, only solutions. 🤙
With life as crazy as it gets and my huge lack of interest in social media, I tend to go quiet for a while and not post anything. That paired with the fact that I'm the worst at remembering to take photos and I end up with a pretty lackluster page. But I try to get better. So here's that shower repair I wrapped up last month. The whole shower got a scrub down, new caulk joints, and fresh sealing. As good as new. 👍
Jumped around between jobs today. Spent the morning getting this 2x2 mosaic pan set. I was given 20 sheets of tile for 18 sq ft.. it wasn't ideal, but we made it happen. Ive never been a fan of how the schluter pan bowls around the drain either, which is why I prefer #flofx drains.. We salvaged the bonding flange and drain on this though, so I had to go with a replacement schluter pan. The latter half of the day consisted of the fun stuff. Dry cutting a penny hex shower floor with a floral border. A couple of hiccups are delaying this project, but I cant wait to get rocking on this install
Every pan replacement gets a flood test to ensure a water tight seal. It also keeps the client at ease after already dealing with a leaky shower!
Leaking Shower Pan replacement #3 for new clients this year. Please, I beg you. If you're going to have a tile shower built. Let a professional tile setter do it. Stop letting your family member, a friend of a friend, or your GCs carpenter give you a cheap deal. At the end of the day, it'll cost you triple when it needs to be fixed and done properly. And that's if it hasn't caused any framing damage.
Pack a Pan Friday Getting close to having this bathroom ready for tile. Plumbed up the walls with the @builtwithfoam shims for a clean flat plumb surface. Turned around and used them as my depth guages for the self leveling pour I got done yesterday. Again, another perfectly flat clean surface to lay my tile. Covered the leveler with @schlutersystemsna ditra matt. That will get a final layer of membrane before getting a victorian black and white penny hexagon floor. Tons of detail going into this one! Can't wait for the reveal! Stay tuned!
It's more than just installing tile. So. Much. More.. In all homes, but especially more in century old homes, the structure and underlying support need to be examined to ensure it can hold the weight of the new tile. This home had very poor structural support and as a result had some serious sagging, so I jacked up areas throughout the basement to add supporting walls beneath where the tile is going to be. Some of it may be overkill, but I like peace of mind.
This room is about 100 years over due for a face lift. Time to give it some love
Shower Pan Repair/Rebuild Not everyone has the money to tear out their bathroom and re do it because of a leaky shower. ( Although most times they should be due to mold/rot or improper setting procedure ) This unlucky customer had her shower built and installed by her inexperienced EX husband. Luckily they stopped using it soon after it was put into use. Due to the divorce and need to sell the house she wasn't in the position to have it all redone. I tore out the whole pan, and bottom two coarses of wall tiles, treated the mold, cleaned up the subfloor and rebuilt her a new walk in shower pan and curb. The shower is now functioning for the house to be sold. Lets fix what wasn't done right the first time! Contact me today to discuss your leaky shower options!
What drives me? This. This is why I do what I do. It's not work when you love what you're doing.
who doesn't love a good before and after? This heated floor failed within the first 5 years. So we tore it out and did it right for the last time! There was a lot of logistics to work around on this one but this 8x8 patterned porcelain could not have come out any better! #tilelife
A complete 180° degree transformation. Night and day if you will. Will post full bathroom pictures once glass is installed. #tile #tiler #tileguy #tileinstaller #tilecraftsman #tilerspride #tilersofinstagram #remodel #transformation
It's hard to believe this is the same floor! 1980s 8"x8" checker tiled mudroom with years and years of neglect. This was at a client's house, so I offered to do a grout restoration for them. Deep cleaned and restained all of the grout to an original white color saving them thousands of dollars on a tear out and redo. Needless to say they were ecstatic to have their floor looking brand new again!
I heard once that a remodel is only as good as the tile guys tile. Ain't that the truth 😏 Had to put on my patience pants with these "handmade" look tiles. These can really drive an OCD tile installer crazy. Thankfully I learned a few tips to help with installing if I run into these again. Counters are 5 weeks out, so we did what we could and will scribe the rest in later. Will be glad to come back and finish so I can hit this bomb little bbq joint again. Killer lunch today. 🤙
Some 4' wood plank tiles that went down last week 🤙
Happy to announce that starting this new year I will be offering a new service. Tile & Grout Cleaning and Restoration! I have been trying out some new equipment and cleaning products and here are the results! This travertine floor was installed 6 years ago and has taken quite the beating over the years. After treating it with some deep penetratiing cleaner, I gave it a good steam cleaning. These are the before and after photos. I believe they speak for themselves 😏.
Finished this one up last week. Stopped in today to put a coat of sealer on. This beauty is officially ready to be put back together.
Bit of progress on this bathroom. I got the floor installed on Monday. When I did the prep for it last week I screwed the subfloor back down with 2" screws. I normally use 3". Still, it was quiet as a mouse. Installed the Ditra uncoupling and was good to go. Yesterday as I'm working the tub walls I start hearing this loud squeaking from the floor everytime I get down and walk out of the room. Completely unacceptable. I had an idea of where the joists were so I tore out a couple tiles and screwed it down with 3" screws. Squeak was gone! .... or so I thought. Started working today and after a little while the squeak started again... completely baffled and on a whim I took my multi tool and cut the joint along the tub and floor slightly to remove anything possibly pressing against the tub. Squeek was gonna once again! Never had this happen before. Fingers crossed it stays gone!
Was hoping to get these walls wet shimmed and set today but only had a couple hours. Walls were pretty bad in the right corner and had to do a bit of shimming to get it within spec. Will finish prepping this up tomorrow and start working the floor. Should be a good Friday.
A bit of demo today. Gonna replace this 3x6 natural stone with some 48" planks. Granite guys will be taking care of the fireplace. Big shout out to J-dawg for the help today. Couldn't of done it without ya brother. Tomorrow I'll finish getting the floors cleaned up and ready for prep. Then jumping over to another job for a week or so before coming back here to install.
Easing my way into the work week with a little Grout and out today! Gonna be a long week of tear out at one job and bathroom floor and shower prep at another job site. Let's get it
did some splashbacking today. It'll be grout and out for an easy Monday. 🤙
Little backsplash prep today with some left over kerdi board.
Little before and after on this shower surgery project. I deconstructed the bottom end of the shower due to mold. Turns out it was leaking. I adjusted the plumbing to accommodate a linear drain, rebuilt the pan and curb and installed this seamless 24x24 tile on the floor. I'll clean up the grout joints on the bathroom floor and reinstall the shower doors and this ones a wrap. Super happy I stepped out of my comfort zone to attempt this type of service. I had the know how but never had the chance to apply it. Grateful for my customers for trusting me to attempt this for the first time. With jobs like this you never know what your getting into and they were awesome through it all.
progress shot Did a little schlutering today and got this shower pan ready for a flood test tomorrow. It's been quite the puzzle rebuilding this so that the new tile on the curb will be right where the old tile was and the tracks for the glass doors line up with the original mounting holes. So far so good 🤙
Playing Shower Surgeon Today I'm doing a bottom end tear out and rebuild on this schluter walk in shower. There were some issues with the original install (not my own) that were causing a bit of mold growth. To my suprise the pan was leaking as well. I'll cut out the subfloor and run new plumbing to accommodate a linear wall drain. Patch the subfloor an install a new schluter pan, new curb, and patch in the wall board with some sealan at the joints. Reband and water proof everything and give it a flood test. Then ill be installing some nice large format tile on the floor. Gonna be a good one. 👍
This 8x8 really transforms this laundry room! Goodbye 90s Luan, hello beautiful tile! I love renovating out of date flooring. The contractor grade 12x12 in the bathroom got a face lift as well. I installed some penny hex mosaics that look really sharp! Your room can really make quite the statement with bold accent features like these!
loved this install. quality tile, square walls, flat floor. What more could you ask for?
Mosaic Monday. Half Bath grouted up. These penny hex were actually all pretty uniform and made install a breeze. Tomorrow I jump over to the laundry room. The homeowner picked out some really great tile that I'm pretty excited to install. I love when I get to do designs or install tiles that I havent done yet. Gonna be fun. Stay tuned.
Now that's a wrap! I've had the pleasure of doing some rescent installs that have been quite the skills test, and am grateful for the opportunity to show what I can do. This 4x8 subway on a 45 degree herringbone was quite the challenge with the counter being out of level 1/4" across one side. Pulled a couple tricks from the bag and nailed this one. Super happy with the finished results. Done, dusted, and on to the next one. 🤙
Woot woot! work shirts and hoodies finally came in! Time to start looking a bit more professional! #tile #tiler #tileinstaller #tilecraftsman #professional
Had a hell of a time trying to dial in this 3 way mitre. First time attempting it, and damn near gave up. The whole backsplash took me 8 hours to set up and install. And another 2 hours failing at trying to get that one little detail right. Came back today determined to get it right and got it about as close as I possibly could have considering the corner wasn't a perfect 90. Its not perfect but I'm pretty happy with how it came out considering. One more trick to the bag. #tile #tilelife #tilecrafstman #tileinstaller #tilerspride #miter #backsplash
This week's project is a backsplash using elongated hexagon porcelain tiles for some new friends in the neighborhood. As challenging as it was, it was nice to do something a bit different than your standard subway backsplash. I installed the oven wall free hand and cut as I go. What a pain that was with these tiles not having flat edges on all sides. I attempted to start a template but my only layout surface was a laminate floor and these tiles did not want to sit still while I laid them out so I just went for it. I struggled a little bit to make marks and precise cuts but took my time and got it installed nice and clean. Realizing I didn't want to fight the install on the sink wall I came up with the idea to use a peice of uncoupling membrane upside down as a slip resistant pad to lay my tile out on. Mapeguard um for the win! Did exactly what I wanted it to and was able to template the other wall and make for a much easier install process. Pictures don't quite do it justice. Super stoked with the end result, and so are the homeowners... couldn't be happier. Thanks for looking 🤙 #tile #tilelife #tiler #tilerspride #backsplash #hexagontiles #tilecraftsman
Wrapped this one up a day early for a 3 day weekend. Big shout out to @hinman_construction for bringing me in and giving me an opportunity to show them what I can do. Looking forward to building a great business relationship! 🤙
Friday Vibes. Finished installing the kitchen, cleaning up what was already installed, and getting a goodlayout down for the entry/ hall. Grout Party Monday 🥳 🤙
After the anxiety of having my new kitchen backsplash tile installed by someone that did a terrible job, I was referred to Ron to have a do over. I love the job he did.....so professional and perfectly installed. I'll never use anyone else.
Hands down Ron is the BEST at tile. We have had many contractors in our home and we had our best experience with Ron. Ron's work is meticulous! He takes his time to make everything perfect. He does wonderful and precise work. Ron works in such an orderly and tidy way and his pricing is fair and reasonable. We will be working with Ron again on our bathroom and laundry room floor tile.
